Class Schedule June 2011

Most of our leathercrafting classes include all the supplies, unless noted below.  Each student is responsible for bringing their own tools.  If you are just now getting started our Deluxe Leathercrafting Starter Set is the best option for you to purchase.

New Wholesale Club Members and customers that purchase our #55510-00 Deluxe Leathercraft Kit may choose one basic class off this schedule and the class fee will be waived.  Classes taught by anyone not employed by Tandy Leather Factory are noted below in the class description.  The offer for a free class only applies to our basic classes.

Each student is required to RSVP for the class(es) they want to attend.  In order to assure there are not too many people signed up for a class we do require prepayment for each class you sign up for.  In the event you have to cancel after you have prepaid for a class, the class fee will be refunded in store credit.  We do offer an alternate list for people to sign up in the event that the class is already full.  We will call the alternates in the order they are signed up if we receive a cancellation.

Take a look at our class schedule we have added more basic classes and intermediate classes to get you started off on the right foot in leathercrafting.  Please also take note if the class is a beginner’s class or advanced class.  To take an advanced class each student will be required to have learned the basics.

Saturday June 4th Coloring Leather Workshop 10 – Noon.  This is not an actual class where you need to provide any tools or a project to work on, but more of a demonstration of HOW to use our new Eco-Flo products to get the look you want.  There is always a big demand for this class so get here early if you want a seat at the table; otherwise you are welcome to stand and watch and ask questions.  The class will start promptly at 10:00 and finish up pretty close to 3:00.  This is an informal class where you watch me show and tell about these great new dyes, stains & finishes.  Plus you will go away with the knowledge on how to get that fantastic finish on all your projects!  There is no class fee for this workshop.

Saturday June 11th  Basic Tooling Class  10 – Noon. Each student must provide the basic 7 tool set (or equivalent), mallet, modeling spoon and the desire to learn the proper techniques to do western floral carving.  Once you take this 2 hour basic class you will have a better working knowledge and proper techniques to lay out any floral pattern and tool it like a pro!  Class fee is $15.00

Saturday June 18th Belt Making 10 – Noon.  In this 2 hour workshop each student will learn how to cut their own belt blanks from a double shoulder, how to skive and punch the buckle end and how to use an edge beveler and slicker tool properly.  We will not have time to actually tool our belts, but everyone will leave with their very own belt blank to do at home.  The price of this workshop is only $10 and all materials and tools will be provided!

Friday June 24th & Saturday June 25th  Big Horn Sheep Embossing Class.  This is a two day class with Fridays session starting at 6:00 and going until around 8:30 pm.  Then on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 and going till we finish around 4:00, we’ll share with you the techniques for doing the extreme embossing techniques on leather.  Each student will make their very own masterpiece that can be framed and displayed once finished.  We will be using a pattern taken out of “Figure Carving” on page 58. The cost of this class is $45 and all materials will be included.  Each student must already have basic tooling skills, and both days are required to complete the project.  Plan to bring a mallet, swivel knife and any smooth pearshaders and bevellers along with any figure carving bevellers and modeling spoons.

Most of our classes begin at 10:00 am, but please take note of start times for all classes with an ** beside the date.  There is room for 6 students in each workshop/class so please make your reservation by prepaying for the classes you wish to attend.  First come first served. The cost of the class will include all the materials necessary but each student needs to bring their own tools with them.

If you see anything you would like to join us for be sure to get in ASAP and prepay which will reserve your spot at the table.  Spring and Summer are right around the corner and this is a perfect time to spend a couple hours with us brushing up on techniques you’ve been wanting to learn or get better at.

Remember that new WC members are allowed to choose one basic class off the schedule for no charge.  This same offer applies to people that purchase our Deluxe Leathercrafting kit!
